Description of Style XP
Style XP is not a skinning engine. It uses Microsoft's built-in visual style engine, but enhances it by providing many useful tools. Style XP can import, select, rotate, and manage themes, visual styles, wallpapers, and logons. Future versions may support sounds, cursors, screensavers, and packages of all the above. Instead of lines and gradients, the XP user interface natively supports the use of skinned bitmap controls (a visual style). This is Microsoft's own innovation. Style XP includes its own visual styles.

| May or not agree with what you say but the truth is that Style XP is a great program and makes your PC a lot less boring with very ease and no resources like Windows Blind does.

| I agree with you, exploited. This "Bill Gates Prince of Darkness" syndrome I get on the internet all the time is REALLY disgusting. They got the edge bigtime and then ran over the competition, just like it happens in any other business. How many mom and pop stores has Wal-Mart shut down? I don't see all the net geeks ranting about that. This kind of ignorance stems from the fact that most people (especially the young ones) are just plain ignorant about business. No need to flame the guy though! This IS America. |

| Indeed...Xerox not only invented the GUI (and even made GEM, a kind of Windows that ran on PCs) it also made Ventura Publisher many years before Quark was pulled from quantum-mechanics. Wordperfect? Blewgh! That was ripped from programs like Wordstar on CP/M. I have some idea where node gets his stupid anti-Microsoft bias, but his arguments make him look like he is just a very stupid nerd who can't get laid and tries to 'fit in' desperately with the 'in-crowd'.
Anyways...the point is that 'innovation' IS and will always BE the combining of existing ideas in a new ways. Or do you really thing the guy that invented the wheel was looked at as if he'd invented something REALLY novel? Even the wheel must have looked like loads of other things available at the time...nothing worth getting excited over.
Another important point is that 'using good ideas from others' is nothing other than using your common sense. You'd have to be really stupid to refuse to learn from your peers or your betters (or from even the stupid mistakes made by those far beneath yourself if they exist).
Civilization (if we take it for now that that's actually a GOOD thing) is constanly building upon the mistakes and successes of your predecessors. Innovation is the combining in new ways of the successes of others. That is how humanity became separated from the other animals. For good or for ill - that's the way we were built (and if you're the religious type, you also know who to blame).

WinAmp did skins YEARS before Windows. Christ it pisses me off how MS goes on about "innovation" when they've never had a new idea before anyone else in their entire lives. Windows = Mac OS, Word = Word Perfect, Publisher = Quark, ... ugh, die please Microsoft. |

| Much improved over v 4. Has a real GUI and everything now. I love themes, and the ones that come with xp got boring quick. |
