Description of Password Protect Folders
When sharing your computer with friends or family members, you still do not want them to inadvertently delete or corrupt an important file, see your accounting information or other personal data. Protect Folders was designed with data safety in mind. The program does not store any vital information like passwords in the registry or somewhere else in Windows. The password checksum, which cannot be used to steal your password, is written into locked folders. Even if you have to reinstall Windows due to a system crash or a regular system upgrade, you can access your data after reinstalling Protect Folders. You can even plug your drive into another Windows computer, install Protect Folders and unprotect your folders there, provided that you know the password used to lock the folders. There is no way to break into protected folders by connecting the drive to another computer running DOS, Linux or any other operating system as the password is always required to open locked folders.
